This Web site has been designed with the hope of giving you valuable moving guidelines and advice. Remember, organization and preparedness make a move both cost-effective and efficient. Please read through the following, and call your relocation consultant with any specific questions you may have.
- Move lamps, lampshades, pictures, clothing, plants, and electronic equipment yourself, if possible.
- Make sure all boxes are closed and taped on the top and bottom (required).
- Be sure to label all boxes (required).
- Empty all waterbeds (required).
- Disassemble bunk beds, water beds, and cribs, if possible.
Checklist Elevator: Reserve, if required. Advise us of any time limitations.
Parking To ensure an efficient move, please park your car(s) or place barrels out in front of your residence to secure a 30-40 foot space. The rear of the truck should be in line with the door used for loading. Any parking fines received while loading or unloading your belongings will be added to your bill. It is your responsibility to make sure all walks are free of snow and ice. If this is not possible, please advise our office and the crew will arrive prepared to clean them.
Packing Hints Please be aware that bulky items from your old address may present difficulties moving into your new address.
Packing Not only does a good pack job protect your belongings, but it makes moving into your new home much easier. We do require that all items be packed into boxes since it is the safest way to transport. If you need assistance packing, let Troy’s Moving & Storage help you. Our professional crews are fast, yet careful. If you choose to pack yourself but would like to use our packing materials, please contact us. Troy’s Moving & Storage has packing containers suited to all your needs (please review rate sheet). Your relocation consultant will help you select the appropriate packing materials for your move.
Labeling Please label all boxes on the top and at least on one of the sides. Include “heavy” or fragile along with the room destination of each box. Please use felt-tip markers. Unmarked boxes will cause unnecessary delays. To avoid confusion, segregate boxes containing fragile items into one area of your home. Items not to be packed or moved should be clearly marked and placed aside. Items going to different destinations should be labeled with color-coded stickers or written with different color markers. Planning out the layout of your new home will save valuable time on the move day.
Box Deliveries Depending on your schedule, you can either come into our office to pick up boxes or arrange for delivery. We recommend that you order more boxes than you think you will need. On the day of the move, you will only be charged for what you have used.
Important Points to Review
Troy’s Moving & Storage is not liable for lamps, lampshades, artwork, pictures, mirrors, plants, and statues that are not boxed by Troy’s Moving & Storage. If you do not have boxes for these items, please contact our office before the move, so that appropriate materials may be delivered prior to or on the day of the move.
Plants We cannot assume liability for the condition of your plants.
Electronic Equipment Troy’s Moving & Storage will not be liable for the mechanical conditions of these items. If available, please use original packing boxes; otherwise Troy’s Moving & Storage can pack these items for you. Refer to the rate sheet for details.
Furniture Disassembly Some awkward or large pieces must be disassembled prior to moving. Armoires, large wall units, platform beds, dining room tables, and cribs are examples. Please advise your relocation consultant whether you would like us to come equipped with a tool kit to disassemble and reassemble beds.
Clothing Hanging clothes are removed by our crews and placed in wardrobe boxes, then rehung at your new residence. Boxes are available for rental.
Drawers Leave clothes' drawers full. Remove breakable and small, loose items. Do not tape closed.
File cabinets Lateral and wooden vertical files must be emptied. The bottom two drawers of metal vertical files can be left full.
Brooms, Rakes, Skis, etc. Tape all long-handled items together.
Cleaning Supplies Seal tightly. Keep separate from all other cartons and label.
Refrigerator and Freezer Defrost and remove ice trays and other loose items. Please pack perishables by the time the crew arrives on the move day.
Aquariums All aquariums should be emptied prior to the moving day.
Barbecue Grills Grills should be emptied and cleaned. We cannot transport propane tanks on gas grills.
Washers and Dryers Water and drain couplings should be disconnected.
Appliances We are not permitted to disconnect appliances. They should be connected and disconnected by professionals in that industry.
Flammables and Firearms We are prohibited by law from transporting these items. All gasoline and propane equipment must be drained according to code. Also, grease and/or oil must be removed.
